#$&**$@*!

Why is it only your very favourite, wear every third day, hide your squidgy tummy, feel good clothes suffer wear and tear holes in the fabric?

Oh I know it is because you wear them every third day because they feel good and hide your squidgy tummy. It's still annoying.

I have a plan to rip this black shift apart and make a whole heap of them - one for each day. I know full well this plan will come a cropper due to my lack of sewing skills and complete lack of pattern-making skills, and they'll never fit right or be the same. But just like I refuse to admit that wearing something every third day will wear it out quicker, I refuse to admit that this plan won't be as simple as it seems right now. Tonight, I'll just enjoy it.

Fad or Passion?

L6 is always the first to wake in our house. This was the scene in the lounge on getting up this morning:
I hope chess is a passion that hangs around as long as Baboo has.

Beige

biscuit buff camel cream ecru fawn neutral oatmeal off-white sand tan taupe

No longer beige.

And did I make P3 eat lunch outside, to preserve the carpet-y new-ness for at least one day?
You betcha I did.
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
With your one wild and precious life?
I dunno honey, but I hope it doesn't involve a lot of beige.
Just for the record, my walls are 'stone', and that is a whole different thing ;)

There Is Something Wrong

with this picture.

P3 gets anti-clothing:

P3 sleeps (it was dark - flash is deceptive):

But there is nothing wrong with an A- for your first essay in 40-odd years. Yeah! Go Mutti!

I'm Useless

on the blog front this weekend. I haven't touched the camera in 2 days, despite being very tempted to snap L6 getting dressed for soccer this morning. Naked. Shin pads on. Why would you start with shin pads? However, he was way too quick for me.

Last night I hung out with girl friends and there was lots of
and

Well, in the form of Smarties that is.

So was my excuse for then, and it's kinda gonna have to do for today too, since my head to still too lacking to come up with a picture for today. But if you really want one, you just need to google images of 'smarties' . Cool.

Rubbish

Big skip.

If only life was so easy?

(P.S. It came with the graffiti - didn't happen here.)

Games

It was a day with lots of thinking

as we learnt to play chess. I'm learning alongside L6 which is nice because we are equally hopeless. There was chess with Dad in pyjamas on waking, and chess with Mum in the afternoon.

And a little bit of ludo with P3 thrown in. P3 is very fair about turns. This is Big Lambie's turn:

Sewing Day

Last time I looked for nice cushions I was horrified that they were at least $80 each for pretty ones. So today I rescued some old skirts from the dress up box, and upcycled my own cushions.

Which may not look like fancy ones, but they were free, which is a big plus. L6 had a go at making a bag -

with a handle in a really weird place. But if you have ever tried to reason with L6, you'll understand I had no chance of changing his placement decision. I'm not looking forward to him filling it and trying to pick it up. Oh alright, actually I am. Told you so!!!

Magic!

Oh okay . . . even more science ;)
More endless child videos.
More sideways video [lack of] skills.
Sigh.

More Science

L6 explains the theory behind the diver (pen lid with blu-tack) in the bottle.

Actually that was his second shot. This happened the first time:

And just in case you think I am the Perfect Mother, that experiment was actually Bunce.

And in case you think I'm still pretty fabulous for cajoling grandparents to do science with my children, there's always this:

Brioche. I made brioche, had no berries, and filled it with chocolate. Which doesn't make me a terrible mother, but I have to admit that this is the leftovers from a brioche eaten by P3:

Crumbled. Chocolate extracted. Job done. Sigh. Which pretty much means I get an 'F' on the children eating front. (That's 'what the children eat' as opposed to children-eating, which is probably a good thing to score an 'F' on.)

Only A Mother Calls It Art

Why should I decide at the tender age of three that P3 belongs in art school? Well, everyone knows that it is not about what you paint, but how you justify it eh? P3 has been painting recently. This morning she told us her painting:

was "A Storm In The Night".

Of course this one:

was "A Storm In The Day".

I'll go with that.

Good Husbands And Bad Mothers

Bringing home NZ-made gin (blended with horopito and kawakawa) when you come home from overseas is being a good husband.

Accidentally serving your husband's gin to your six year old with his dinner is being a bad mother. It looks so much like water.

P.S. Don't call CYPS - we realised in time :) Just.

Home Again

L6 perfects the combover about 60 years too early.

And we discover why excessive combing is a Bad Idea.

I enjoyed the quiet while you were away, but it is lovely to have you both, and the hubub, back home again. Time enough for serenity in 15 or 20 years from now.

Poison

Poison is one of L6's favourite things to make. Usually he creates with his friend out in the garden, and they mostly use water, mud and stones. But today we went on a mission to get real poison.

Well, borax anyway. What the heck is borax??? Everyone had heard of it. No-one knew what it was for. I told L&P it was simply poison because I didn't want them to eat the slime we made by mixing PVA, water and borax solution.

They spent a lot of time patting it and making it into biscuits and various other food related items despite, or possibly because of, the Don't Eat It warnings.

I found it nicer to squidge and hang.

I was a grumpy mummy for most of today but hopefully they'll only remember the making slime part. Tonight they have gone to stay at Mutti and Bunce's for the night, and I'm soooooo looking forward to my sleep in. Although feeling a tad guilty that my aged parents will probably be woken up at 6.30am by L6's cough. :(

Gotta Love It

You gotta love . . . P3's questions "Why do we need apples for apple juice?"
Duh. (Or not, if that is a rude thing to say to a three year old.)

You gotta love . . . how many vegetables you can secret into a pie and still have children say "mmm that looks delicious".
You gotta love . . .P3 deciding she wants to pay me for cooking dinner (why do more people not think that is a good idea?). But then shutting her eyes when I try to take a pic.

And then going all coy.

And topping it off with her scary face.

You gotta love . . . doing a science experiment from a funky book Grandma J got us a while back.
