which should totally cheer him up.
I haven't got anything smart to say. Just a picture (or a few) a day to help us remember these busy growing years.

Sick
L9 got sick. A yowzer killer ear infection with acute onset. Poor chap. The wait at the doc was interminable for him, and therefore also for me. Thank goodness for the miracle that is antibiotics. And also for cats.
Still I'm going to show him the construction detail page for this:
which should totally cheer him up.

School Arts
It was Share The Arts at school today. In fact, the whole of P6's school day was pretty cushy. Class pyjama party this morning, so she went to school in her pjs, then as part of the party they got to watch a Yogi Bear movie. After lunch it was time to head to the hall to show the invited parents the arts - mostly recorder groups and some short plays and movies that the kids had made throughout the term. My phone photos were pretty dismal, but I took this pic months ago, and it seems appropriate today. This was some art that P6's class did that was inspired by camouflage in the Gotye/Kimbra video that you have no doubt seen. (Yes, they get to watch you tube videos at school too.) The art teacher at our school really rocks.

Faster Than A Speeding Bullet
L9 must be feeling better, since he's running around booby-trapping the house.
It's a staggeringly awesome picture I know, but it's more interesting than the ones that just tell the story.

Better Room Pics
I realized I haven't really put up the completed room makeover. I can't find any before pics, although I know I've blogged it before as a playroom. Anyway, this is how much lighter it is even at 4.30 on a cloudy winter afternoon. You can see we need Bunce to fix us some kind of storage platform to replace the books holding the bed up.
It's really hard to take a pic of a whole room.I was planning to enter this Resene competition showing how you've used their paint, since I've painted just about everything - fridge, benchtop and furniture along with floors, stairs and walls, but now I'm thinking I might have to kindly ask my photography-savvy Imaginary Friend if she can take some room pics for me since it's so hard, even though I know she doesn't like the pressure of taking pics as a professional for people. . . Hmmm, how to politely cajole? Do you think chocolate and wine might do it?

Big
Just now, L9 found the analogy in his book that he was telling me about at dinner, so he showed it to me. I was amazed too, so I decided I'd amaze you. It's about how hard it is to grasp how far away the stars are, how big space is.
1. Go out into a big field with a football and plonk it down to represent the sun.
2. Then walk 25 metres away and drop a peppercorn to represent the Earth's size and its distance from the sun.
3. The moon, to the same scale, would be a pinhead, and it would be only 5 centimetres away from the peppercorn.
4. But the nearest other star, Proxima Centauri, to the same scale, would be another (slightly smaller) football located about. . . wait for it. . .
6500 kilometres away!
That's roughly the distance from Oxford, England to New Delhi, India.
Amazed? This is L9's Amazed Face.
I hope you are looking something like that right about now too.

Da Da Daaaaaa!
Geeky Husband and I spent all day pretty much moving house to get into our new bedroom in the attic space. OMG I am a bad housewife. Eevrything was dusty and my fave chest of drawers almost killed us both, but sadly, did not make it up the stairs :(
On the plus side L&P were amazing at entertaining themselves all day while we worked, and pretty much did their own thing, that looked a lot like this:
Oh, but now I really need a new rug to hide the holes in the floor. Carpet might have fixed that, but painting it was much more satisfying. And cheaper.
Better
P6 woke up yesterday morning and announced "I AM going to school." She's clearly feeling better, although I suspect it had a lot to do with a wearing a new dress.

Dum-ness
Humpf.
Why yes P6, being sike is dum. However, eating a whole packet of scorched almonds that you bought for someone else's birthday a week ago and haven't given them yet, is not dum. It's mean, but it's quite yummy.

Two Must See Docos
We've watched two really interesting documentaries this week. This one, Jesus Camp, scared the bejaysus right outa me, that's for sure. Compelling viewing, it was as close as I get to a horror movie.
But then this one, The English Surgeon, redeemed the human race, gave me hope for humanity, although it was the most gut-wrenchingly sad thing I've ever watched. Blubbed.
Unfortunately I watched them in the reverse order, so I've totally lost faith in the world. It's whacked.

And This Is Why
I must never, ever, go back out to paid work. :)
Today I:
-painted half a ceiling
(I might be a feminist but bloody hell, painting ceilings is a boy job)
-painted one coat on half a floor
-re-painted all the blue edges
(oh new cutting in brush how I love thee! I would write an ode in your honour if I was as clever as Keats. Or maybe thine honour. See?Not as clever as Keats.)
-looked after a girlie sick with an endless cough who had snuggled in our bed and coughed all night
-baked Anzacs
-baked bread
-made salsa to go with the dinner I made
(I know it looks like a cup of cold sick, but it's just still frothy and it tasted good)
-tamed the wild beast, oh no, I mean bought a protractor and helped Luka to use it
-received a book I'd ordered on recommendation from friends
(which has to be better than P6's reader from yesterday which was full of gruesome pics of Otzi the Iceman, who is very interesting, but seriously not small girl bedtime reading)
-wrote inspiration for my children on not one
-but two household surfaces
-and made mango ice-cream
-which some of us ate with the aforementioned bikkies.
I also cleaned and tidied and blah blah that stuff too. And I think, just for today, that that was sufficient to deem me indispensable.

After Anyway
And now it's different. I quite liked it all green, but I also like the way it lightens up the nook under the stairs now it's distressed white, with clover green in the shelves and cupboards.

Happy Birthday Aunty Iz
It's a good angle anyway.
Still adore ya!
And hopefully still make you giggle.
Happy birthday my delicious big sister.

Soccer
This one is for Mutti, who won't believe it - a win, eight nil. Whoop!!
Absolutely beautiful day for it too. Freeeeeezing and sunny. P6 took the pics and managed a nice one of Geeky Husband and I too.

Book Parade
I love book parade day. This year I had Luke Skywalker (that's a jedi robe don't ya know, not a dressing gown) and Pearl the Cloud Fairy.
It looks pre-dawn, but that's just my bad photography, combined with the fact that I forgot to get a pic at home, so had to take one in the car park. This one shows the cool dark plait I painstakingly created with wool. The hat covers the fact that it is impossible to make a home-made wig that covers your crown. Here's P6's class - what a rocking teacher eh?
And the prize for most awesome costume-mummy clearly goes to Lumiere's mother - now that's impressive:

Jedi
Yesterday there was painting
and today the lightsaber is complete.
L9 told me that his preferred combat style
is Form III Soresu (just like Obi-wan).
He also decided his dressing gown is quite like a jedi robe.

I Am Very Brave
or possibly very stupid. I cut two inches off P6's already short hair today, in an attempt to even out the horrors of a growing-out-fringe. I think it's a cute-as-pie Parisian bob. She likes it, but then said her friends might think it's weird. Blah to peer pressure. Cute, right? (Now I'm a little worried.)
(I couldn't decide which one, so pfft, it's my blog, I'm allowed to put three pics exactly the same on 'cos I'm the boss.)
The fringe is still not quite there, but it's real close. . .
oo that one is a bit bowl-y. I'm sure it's not IRL - eep, poor child!

Oh No, I Really Do. . .
I gather from my sister's kind comment that she believes yesterday's movie friend really is imaginary. Well, I did just finish this book:
(which was quite interesting by the way) so I was tempted to call her Budo, but my imaginary friend is rather more real. She sent me a pic today to immortalise the fact that she wore piggy tails to the movies. Doesn't she rock? She brought chilli chocolate and isn't a movie talker either, which makes her almost too perfect not to be imaginary, but the pic is irrefutable evidence.
It's so nice having mad old lady friends.
